Devastating House Fire – From a Paperweight

The sun can be damaging … we all know that. But you would not expect that, in conjunction with a cheap paperweight, it could cause an estimated £300,000 worth of damage to a family home. But that is just what happened, and you can see the devastation here.

As well as the destruction caused by the fire itself, there would have been considerable damage from the water used to put the fire out.
Once you’ve read this, we urge you to check through your own insurance policy – and never leave glass paperweights (or magnifying mirrors- in fact any object that can concentrate the sun’s rays) near a window on a sunny day.
