Dry rot. Can I claim?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

We’re having some work done at home and our builder has just reported dry rot in the basement. What are my chances of making a successful insurance claim?

Frank, Redhill

Hello Frank, I’m sorry to hear that. Usually dry rot is explicitly excluded from insurance cover as it is ‘gradually operating’. However there is a slim chance of getting somewhere with an insurance claim in certain circumstances. Why don’t you give me a call and I’ll talk through some ideas with you?

I know my business, Truman Associates know theirs. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone who has suffered a theft from their business.
