Business Interruption Claims
It is never a good time to suffer a disaster such as Fire, Flood, Theft or Storm. But if the worst should happen, you would want your insurer to be at your side, giving best advice to assist you through the trauma. Sadly, this is all too often not the case. You are in business; insurers are in business - and your respective interests do not coincide. You are interested in saving your business; insurers are interested in saving money.
Truman Associates are there to offer advice to manage your insurance claim with your best interests at heart. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we are working against your insurance company – just that we are working for you.
For example, after a disaster, you may think it would be best to pull in your entire workforce to help with the damage limitation or tidying up. This doesn't necessarily save your business money in the long run as you may need your staff to talk to customers or suppliers, to keep the bank informed, or to limit the damage your competitors won't hesitate to capitalise upon. Employing a damage-limitation company, well-versed in processes known to limit the physical damage will, of course, result in costs – however it is often actually better to incur such initial costs (which are paid for by your company's insurers) than to absorb them yourself in mopping up (which cannot be claimed additionally as staff are paid anyway).
Attempting to limit the damage in-house locks up your staff who would be better employed in working in your business. The net result of tackling the clean-up yourself may just be that you save your insurers money.
